Lexus has equipped the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with variable valve timing VVT-iW (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent wide) and a twin-scroll turbocharger with a liquid-cooled intercooler. The engine achieves an output of 245 hp at 5,800 rev / min and a maximum torque of 350 Nm 1650-4400 tours. The Lexus IS 200t accelerates in just 7.0 seconds from 0 to 100 km / h and reaches a top speed of 230 km / h – in stark contrast to the crossover Lexus NX 200t, which unfortunately slowed down already at 180 km / h. The performance facing the Lexus NX 200t with 17-inch wheels, an average fuel consumption of 7.0 liters per 100 kilometers (CO2 emissions 162 g / km). With the 18-inch wheels there are 7.2 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers, which / km corresponds to CO2 emissions of 167 g.
Its switching characteristic regulates the Lexus IS 200 tonnes taking into account the current acceleration values. Thus, the transmission automatically downshifts during hard braking into bends and holds in the curve a lower gear in order to optimize the handling. On corner exit, it then selects the optimum gear for accelerating. Alternatively, there are steering wheel controls available.
Turbo engines tend to increased noise in the overrun mode, the so-called turbo whistle. In order to minimize this noise characteristic, Lexus uses an electrically controlled bypass valve and a resonator. Especially Turbo engines require an optimum air throughput to reach their full potential. Therefore, the makers optimized the airflow in all air ducts intensive. This step also contributes to a smooth-running engine with a pleasant Turbo Sound.
The 2016 Lexus IS 200t launch in Germany will be made on October 24, 2015. Specifications and availability for the US hasn’t been confirmed. we’ll update if there is news of the launch for U.S.
